TM Phase 6 is live (Final Prototype Build)
Greetings gamers and game devs.
Phase 6 for my newest mechanical prototype is live, and it is the final build for this stage of development.
In this build your main goal is to eat a baked potato. Sounds simple enough, but to reach a baked potato you will have to engage in the vast majority of systems, getting a real feel for the game play loop of gathering, crafting, refining, and crafting with refined materials.
-To cook a potato you need a food processor, which requires coal that comes from grinding resources in the basic grinder.
-To grow a potato you will need seeds that can only be gained from calling in a supply rocket from earth with seeds from the mission control facility, including a landing pad for the supply to land on. Then you will need to grow those seeds in the basic farm using the plots and the automated irrigation system.
-To do all these things you will need a lot of iron, copper, and ice. In order to gather this many resources you will have to use deep core drills.
There is a finite amount of each resource in the prototype area, but there is enough to establish a powered base and create drills which will automate collection forever.
The survival meters (oxygen, health, food, water) function, but you will not die when you reach 0 health. As we begin to create a real game we will balance these meters to ensure it adds a fun element of management without crossing into tedium. As well as starting you with enough MRE's and water to keep you alive until you can setup your own systems for food and water.
The next phase of development is the first pass of visuals, sounds, world design, and some functionality that is missing such as game options, key binds etc..
We will be moving from a mechanical prototype to a vertical slice of game play in the next build. There is still many systems, resources, and facilities we still need for the full game, but we have enough systems to transition to a vertical slice. You can expect this first visual pass to take a good deal of time, but it will improve the game in immeasurable amounts for players.
